The signature stretch — winding above sheer cliffs with explosive surf below. Benches every few hundred metres invite you to linger and scan the bay for southern right whales.

The path narrows, the rocks sharpen and the crowds disappear. A rugged finale across exposed cliffs, ravines and tidal pools rewarded by a long arc of soft white sand.

Walker Bay is the world's best land-based whale-watching site. Southern right whales come within metres of these cliffs between July and November.

Gearing's Point

The most famous viewpoint in town and HQ of the Whale Crier. Deep water close to shore brings whales within metres.

A natural amphitheatre of rock with a 180° sweep across Walker Bay. Sunset light is unreal.

Kwaaiwater

Translates to "angry water" — explosive surf and blowholes, plus an underwater shelf that whales love.

Best for · Wave drama, mother & calf pairs

Die Plaat View

Long beach vista toward De Kelders, with chances of dolphins, seals and the occasional shark sighting.
